How to use press on nails

The ultimate guide to flawless press-on nails

Say goodbye to salon appointments and hello to stunning DIY manicures
Press-on nails offer a convenient and budget-friendly way to achieve salon-quality manicures at home. With proper application, they can even last as long as traditional gel or acrylic manicures. This blog post will guide you through the process of flawlessly applying press-on nails for a seamless and long-lasting result.

Before you begin: Nail prep is key
A well-prepped base is crucial for optimal adhesion and longevity of your press-on nails.
  1. Cleanse and remove polish: Start by removing any old nail polish with a non-acetone remover and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This removes any oils, debris, and residue that could hinder adhesion.
  2. Push back cuticles: Gently push back your cuticles with a cuticle stick to create a clean and even base for the press-on nails to adhere to. Avoid trimming your cuticles as this can cause cuts or nicks.
  3. Shape and buff: Shape your natural nails with a nail file to achieve your desired length and shape .Gently buff the nail surface to create a bit of texture for the adhesive to grab onto, improving adhesion and preventing air bubbles.
  4. Cleanse again: Wipe your nails with rubbing alcohol or a lint-free nail wipe to ensure they are completely free of oils or residue. Avoid touching your nails after this step to prevent transferring oils from your fingers.
  5. Size the nails: Compare the press-on nails with your natural nails to find the best fit for each finger. The press-ons should fit snugly without being too tight or extending beyond your nail bed. If a press-on nail is slightly too large, you can gently file down the sides for a better fit.

Choosing your adhesive: Glue vs. sticky tabs
The type of adhesive you choose impacts how long your press-on nails will last.
  • Nail Glue (Long-lasting wear): Ideal for extended wear, lasting up to 2-3 weeks. Apply a thin layer of glue to both your natural nail and the back of the press-on nail.
  • Sticky Tabs (Short-term wear): Great for temporary manicures or a weekend look, lasting up to a week. Simply apply the tab that matches your nail size to your natural nail, remove the backing, and then press on the nail.
Flawless application: Step-by-step
  1. Prepare your work area: Protect your counter with a rag or towel to avoid any glue spills.
  2. Apply adhesive: If using glue, apply a thin layer to your natural nail, covering the entire nail bed. If using adhesive tabs, apply the tabs to your natural nails, aligning them close to the cuticle.
  3. Position the press-on: Align the press-on nail with your natural nail, starting from the cuticle area.
  4. Angle and press: Hold the press-on at a 45-degree angle and press it down firmly onto your natural nail, from the cuticle to the tip. This helps to prevent air bubbles from getting trapped underneath.
  5. Hold firmly: Hold the press-on in place for 20-30 seconds, or longer for extra security.
  6. Smooth out air bubbles: Gently press down on the nail, smoothing out any air bubbles while the adhesive bonds.
  7. Alternate hands: Working on one finger at a time, apply the nails to alternating hands.
  8. Avoid water: Allow a minimum of 2 hours for the adhesive to fully set and dry before getting your hands wet. For the best results, consider applying them before bed.
